Alec Baldwin has maintained he did not pull the trigger on the Rust set that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchinssaying certain news outlets are simply “out to get” him.

Speaking on The Chris Cuomo Projectthe actor reiterated he should not be blamed for the fatal 2021 shooting that also injured the film’s director, Joel Souza.

On the YouTube program, Baldwin went after news outlets such as The Post for constantly hounding him for answers and theorising what happened on set that fateful day in October.

“The people that are talking loudest about what happened or speculating about what happened were not on the set of the film,” Baldwin told host Chris Cuomo. “They talk on and on and on about ‘what if’ this and ‘what if’ that…”

“They have dined out on this, and the thing that they have in common is nobody was there. And everybody who was there, they know exactly what happened.”

Baldwin then used a bizarre example as he insisted the media was “out to get” him.

“If George Bush’s mother, Barbara, fell through the ice on a pond and I waded into the pond and saved her life, they’d say I groped her. They’d say I squeezed her breast while I was pulling her out of the pond,” Baldwin insisted. “It doesn’t matter what you do. The ones that are out to get you are out to get you.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Baldwin denied pulling the trigger on the gun that killed Hutchins and explained he was practising a technique called “fanning”.

“If you pull the hammer back far enough … the hammer didn’t lock … it would fire the bullet without you pulling the trigger,” he said.

Baldwin’s new interview echoes the sit-down he did with ABC back in December, in which he also claimed he did not pull the trigger.

“The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger,” he said. “I would never point a gun at someone and pull the trigger on them, never.”

The new interview comes days after the FBI released a report stating that the firearm that killed Hutchins on the set of Rust could not have fired “without a pull of the trigger while the working internal components were intact and functional”.

According to the FBI report obtained by ABC Newsthe gun “could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger”.

Baldwin, who is also a producer of the film, was holding the firearm at the time of the incident. His lawyer, Luke Nikas, has since released a statement on his behalf in response to the FBI report.

“The gun fired in testing only one time – without having to pull the trigger – when the hammer was pulled back and the gun broke in two different places. The FBI was unable to fire the gun in any prior test, even when pulling the trigger because it was in such poor condition,” Nikas said in the statement.

“The critical report is the one from the medical examiner, who concluded that this was a tragic accident,” he added. “This is the third time the New Mexico authorities have found that Alec Baldwin had no authority or knowledge of the allegedly unsafe conditions on the set, that he was told by the person in charge of safety on the set that the gun was ‘cold,’ and believed the gun was safe.”
