Benton man killed in early morning crash, second fatal accident reported in a week | News

A Benton man was killed in a single-car crash early Wednesday morning on Arkansas 229 near Jackman Trail, according to an Arkansas State Police crash summary.  This is the second fatal accident reported in Saline County in a week.

Peyton Mitchell, 24, was traveling southbound on Arkansas 229 when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and the driver lost control of the vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle left the roadway and the front bumper collided with a tree causing it to overturn and catch on fire, according to the report.

The crash occurred at 1:15 a.m. At the time of the crash, the weather was clear and the road was dry, according to the report.

A week earlier, Arkansas State Police reported that a Benton woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident Aug. 10 on Arkansas 9 at Nethercutt Road.

According to the fatal crash report, a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling southbound on Arkansas 9 north of Nethercutt Road when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert. The vehicle overturned multiple times.

The driver of the vehicle, Lynette Lorene Earles, 60, of Benton sustained fatal injuries and the passenger, Brad Earles, 53, was transported to an area hospital for treatment, according to ASP.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. and the road was wet at the time.
