#1. Third Battle of Panipat

It was on 14th January 1761 that the Third Battle of Panipat happened. Considered one of the largest battles of the century the Third Battle of Panipat saw a Muslim Afghani Durrani Empire defeat the Hindu Maratha Empire in North India. This battle also resulted in the death of around 60,000–70,000 and 40,000 Maratha prisoners massacred post the battle.

#2. The Gandhi-Smuts Agreement

It was on 14th January 1914 that the Gandhi-Smuts Agreement was reached between Gen. J.C. Smuts and Mahatma Gandhi. This Gandhi-Smuts Agreement was regarding voluntary registration, poll tax, recognition of Indian marriages and other matters

#3. Stampede near Sabarimala 

On 14th January 2011, on Makara Jyothi Day at Pullumedu near Sabarimala in Kerala, India a stampede broke out during the annual pilgrimage. This Stampede resulted in the death of 106 pilgrims and the injury of more than 100. This stampede was also declared a “National disaster” such was its impact.
