As per reports, the artistic manager was suffering from a rare form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer that starts in the lymphatic system. The family spokesperson confirmed Micheal’s death cause too. Micheal was lastly seen in the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock festival that had taken place before the pandemic had hit the world. His sudden death news has shaken all his near and dear ones who are taking to social media to condole his death.

Who Was Michael Lang?

Internet is flooded with emotional posts and messages as netizens are saddened after learning the demise of the tour promoter. Born on December 11, 1944, in Brooklyn in New York, Micheal Lang was Woodstock Music and Art Festival co-creator. Apart from that, he was also an American concert promoter, artistic manager and producer. He moved to Coconut Grove in Florida after dropping out of New York University. Lang opened a head shop there. Later, in 1968, he went ahead to produce the 1968 Miami Pop Festival as he had promoted several concert events in the Miami area earlier.

The pop festival witnessed a crowd of around 25,000 people while it also included personalities like Arthur Brown, Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooket, and Frank Zappa. After that event, Micheal Lang moved to New York where he met Artie Kornfeld. The duo decided to celebrate the social movements that occurred in 1960 and developed the concept for a major festival event. They further opened a recording studio to execute their plan.

The 77-year-old initiated the Woodstock festival which took place from August 15 to 18 on Max Yasgur’s farm located in Bethel in New York. The festival was held in 1969. The promoter had been featured in several scenes of Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music”, a documentary film released in 1970. Besides, Lang was also the associate producer of the 1986 released film titled “Bottle Rocket”. Now, Micheal Lang has died at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center situated in New York On Jan 8.
