Zoë Kravitz has given a rare insight into her relationship with Channing Tatum as they wrap filming on her directorial movie debut, Pussy Island.
The couple will mark their first anniversary of dating this month, a little more than one year after she cast him in the upcoming thriller.
“I wanted to find someone who hadn’t played a dark character before because I think that’s exciting to watch someone who’s mostly played boy next door, good guy, love interest, all of that,” Kravitz, 33, told WSJ. Magazine.

“I felt, even from afar, before I knew him, that he was a feminist and that he wasn’t afraid of exploring that darkness, because he knows he’s not that. That’s why I was drawn to him and I wanted to meet with him. And I was right.”
Kravitz – who is the daughter of rocker Lenny Kravitz and model Lisa Bonet – then reflected on her time on set with Tatum, saying it was meaningful for both their professional and personal lives.

“When you make things with people it’s a very sacred space, and when you’re compatible with somebody creatively it often opens up other channels, because you’re kind of sharing all of yourself,” Kravitz said.
“I’m really grateful that this movie has brought him into my life that way.”
The couple first ignited dating rumours last year following Kravitz’s divorce from ex-husband Karl Glusman in January 2021. Months later in April, she was spotted getting cosy with Tatum in New York before they attended the Met Gala together in May.

It’s believed Tatum, 42, met Kravitz on the set of Pussy Islandwhich she also co-wrote and starred in. The film follows Frida (played by Naomi Ackie), a young cocktail waitress living in LA who sets her sights on tech mogul Slater King (played by Tatum).
But after making her way through King’s inner circle and scoring an invite to his private island, Frida senses there’s more to the island than meets the eye.

“It’s always really intriguing to have someone bring you something that literally no one else has ever thought of you for,’” Channing told WSJ about the role.
“When [Zoë] first met the movie was pretty different than its form now, but the themes were the same. All the iterations it has gone through were all pretty punk rock, to be honest.”
